AEO Checker is a free Chrome extension that shows whether AI answer engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews can read a page. It runs the same 14 weighted checks as our web audit, on any page you open.

What does the AEO Checker extension do?

It scores the page you have open out of 100 on how well AI answer engines can read it. It runs 14 checks, including AI crawler rules in robots.txt, llms.txt, schema.org structured data, noindex rules, and how much of the page exists without JavaScript. Every issue comes with a fix.

Is it free?

Yes. There is no account, no API key and no limit.

What permissions does it need?

Only activeTab and scripting. It can read a page only after you click the extension on that page, so Chrome shows no “read all your data on all websites” warning when you install it.

Does it send my data anywhere?

No. The audit runs in your browser and only talks to the site you’re checking. Your domain reaches us only if you click through to the full-site audit on aeoindex.co.

How is it different from the audit on this site?

The checks and weights are the same. The web audit reads your homepage from our server. The extension reads any page from your browser, so it also works on sites that block servers, and it can compare what AI crawlers receive with what you see on screen.

Does a high score mean ChatGPT will recommend me?

No. A high score means AI tools can read the page, which is the entry ticket. Whether they recommend you also depends on what other sites say about you. The AEO Index shows who gets recommended in 15 software categories.
